Carpet installed by a family you can actually call
Absolute Flooring and Design has been outfitting The Greater Grand Rapids Area homes with carpet since Jamie VanTuinen started the business out of a garage back in 2013. We've grown into a full showroom since then, but the approach hasn't changed - you can read more about our story if you're curious. We stock hundreds of styles across plush, textured, Berber loop, patterned, and wool carpet, and our own crew handles every step, from tearing out the old carpet to the final stretch.
Every free estimate includes a same-day or next-day home visit where we bring 30+ real samples to your door - no guessing from a tiny swatch under fluorescent store lighting.
Choosing the right carpet for the room
The right carpet depends on how a room actually gets used, and after installing carpet across West Michigan for over a decade we've learned that Grand Rapids-area basements and mudrooms need a different fiber than a formal living room. Soft plush works beautifully in bedrooms; stairs and hallways hold up better on a tight low-pile weave (see our dedicated carpet stairs page); basements and homes with pets do best on a solution-dyed polyester that shrugs off moisture.
- Nylon - the most durable fiber, built for high-traffic rooms
- Polyester (PET) - the softest feel and naturally stain-resistant, a favorite with kids and pets
- Wool - a premium look that's naturally stain- and flame-resistant
- Berber loop - durable and budget-friendly (we'll steer cat owners toward something else)
- Patterned and textured cuts that hide footprints and vacuum lines

Learn moreCarpet tiles for basements, home offices, and playrooms
Carpet tile is our go-to recommendation any time a single stain or scorch shouldn't mean tearing up an entire room - it's popular enough with The Greater Grand Rapids Area homeowners that we built a whole carpet tiles page around it. Squares snap into place, install in hours instead of days, and a damaged tile pops right out for a quick swap. The modular backing also handles moisture better than broadloom, which is why it's our default call for finished basements in this area.
Installation by our own crew, start to finish
We install stretch-in broadloom over fresh premium cushion, glue-down commercial carpet, carpet tiles, and stair runners. Every job includes real power-stretching (not just a knee kicker), heat-bonded seams, and full haul-away of your old carpet - most homes are wrapped up in a single day. If you'd rather spread the cost out, ask about our financing: 0% APR with equal payments up to 60 months.
Carpet Flooring - frequently asked questions
Most 3-bedroom homes in The Greater Grand Rapids Area are finished in a single day, maybe two if we're removing old carpet and pad first. We can usually shift furniture for you at no extra charge - just let your estimator know.
Solution-dyed polyester or a stain-resistant nylon. The color runs all the way through the fiber, so even a bleach-based cleanup on a pet accident won't leave a light spot behind.
In almost every case, yes. Old padding compresses and holds onto moisture over the years, and installing over it can void your new carpet's warranty. Fresh premium cushion is included standard on every installation.
Yes - we use a staple-free installation method that protects the wood underneath, so if you ever want bare hardwood back, it's still there waiting for you.
